About the Series

BRAZIL - COPACABANA BEACH

Text by João Luiz Bulcão

Copacabana has been sung in prose and verse as part of the Brazilian people's imagination since the beginning of the last century, when the neighborhood was associated with elegance, luxury and modernity. Symbol of a new model of brazilianity, Copacabana has been, since then, the object of desire of different social classes, attracted by the dream of prestige and social distinction.

The landscape of Copacabana has changed over the years and the most important district of Rio de Janeiro has become a dizzying and disorderly stone jungle. With a demographic index today of 3 inhabitants per square meter, the social classes are spread over an area of 7.84 Km2 with 150,000 inhabitants.
